Member Spotlight: Mainfreight Americas
“Mainfreight’s Pledge to Inspire Reading”
Along with Books In Homes USA’s launch of its inaugural giving circle “Books In Homes USA Literacy Society” we also commence our “Member Spotlight” series with our founding sponsor, Mainfreight Americas. “Special people, Special company” truly exemplifies Mainfreight and its unique culture of its commitment to giving. As a global logistics provider Mainfreight’s impact goes beyond transporting freight by providing the much-needed resources for children to chart a path out of poverty. Mainfreight pledges the gift of reading by breaking the cycle of “booklessness” for children in our most underserved communities. Their support of the Books In Homes goes beyond the company’s key impact in the United States.
Mainfreight has been part of the program since its inception in New Zealand (1994) as Duffy Books In Homes and subsequent expansion to Australia (2001) as Books In Homes Australia. Currently, Mainfreight supports over 100 schools in the United States, New Zealand and Australia. John Hepworth, Director and President – Mainfreight Americas & Board Member – Books In Homes USA, says “All of our team is committed to Books In Homes USA, and our ongoing investment continues cultivating children, our emerging leaders, establishing a foundation for success now and in the future.”
Mainfreight team members also volunteer their time at Books In Homes USA’s events and book giveaways, including participating in awarding children with positive attitudes and outstanding behavior with the Mainfreight Award for Excellence. Mainfreight and Books in Homes – Book Giveaway and Awards Ceremony.
Mainfreight Americas is also Books In Homes USA’s 6th Annual Golf Tournament “Event Sponsor”. Kevin Drinkwater, CIO – Mainfreight and Board Treasurer & Founding Board Member – Books In Homes USA, said his passion for books “enabled me to achieve success beyond what I could have ever wished for as a teenager. The knowledge of what reading did for me, then, has made me want to ensure that every child has the opportunity I had. I love being part of the Books in Homes team in the USA and New Zealand, as it is at the forefront of changing children’s lives through the gift of books which enable them to build a library at home. We promote the love of books and reading, through which we increase literacy, knowledge and the child’s ability to be as successful as they want to be.”
