Books in Homes Expands Program to California

Longfellow Elementary School in Compton, California Celerity Achernar Charter School in Compton, California Dominguez Elementary in Carson, California Catskill Avenue Elementary in Carson, California The Books in Homes team celebrates the organization's first Book Giveaway in California with partners and sponsors from Mainfreight USA, Watson Land Company, and the Compton Unified School District.  Pictured left to right: Pilar Hoyos, Senior Vice President, Public Affairs, Watson Land Company; Silvia Mueller-Thompson, Branch Manager Los Angeles, Mainfreight Air & Ocean; Shane Michalick, Domestic Branch Manager, Mainfreight Inc.; Alaina Billing, Program Coordinator, Books in Homes USA; Dr. Richard E. Quest, Executive Director, Books in Homes USA; Jeff Harris, Director, School and Community Partnerships, Compton Unified School District Students from Compton Early College High School perform "Peter Pan" for more than 300 second and third grade students at five elementary schools across the district.  Students at Washington Elementary School in Compton select books as part of CUSD's Enchanted Spring Literacy Event.  Students at Washington Elementary enjoyed "Peter Pan" while wearing their own hats provided by the performers. Students from Compton Early College High School created an interactive experience for children throughout the show, providing them with cues to participate in the performance.
